Jim Thorpe, PA  — (May 26, 2015) — The Jim Thorpe Tourism Agency (JTTA) is proud to announce its member accommodations, restaurants and attractions that were awarded 2015 TripAdvisor Certificates of Excellence last week.

The Inn at Jim Thorpe, the Times House Bed & Breakfast in Jim Thorpe and the Hampton Inn in Lehighton were recognized for excellence in accommodations; Moya, Tony Stella’s Encore, and Wheel for excellence in restaurants; and the Asa Packer Mansion, Bear Mountain Butterfly, the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway, Mauch Chunk Opera House, the No. 9 Coal Mine & Museum, Penn’s Peak and Pocono Whitewater for excellence in attractions. The Jim Thorpe Memorial was also recognized.

“We are very proud of our JTTA members who consistently set the bar for quality of service in Jim Thorpe,” said JTTA president Randall Sellers. “Their extra effort is what brings customers back for return visits and encourages them to tell their family and friends to visit our area. Return customers and positive word-of-mouth are extremely important to tourism, which drives our entire local economy.”

Now in its fifth year, the award celebrates excellence in hospitality and is given only to establishments that consistently achieve great traveler reviews on TripAdvisor.

When selecting Certificate of Excellence winners, TripAdvisor uses a proprietary algorithm to determine the honorees that takes into account the quality, quantity and recency of reviews and opinions submitted by travelers on TripAdvisor over a 12-month period as well as business’s tenure and ranking on the Popularity Index on the site.  To qualify, a business must maintain an overall TripAdvisor bubble rating of at least four out of five, have a minimum number of reviews and must have been listed on TripAdvisor for at least 12 months.

“TripAdvisor is pleased to honor exceptional hospitality businesses that have received consistent praise and recognition by travelers on the site,” said Marc Charron, President of TripAdvisor for Business. “By putting a spotlight on businesses that are focused on delivering great service to customers, TripAdvisor not only helps drive increasing hospitality standards around the world, it also gives businesses both large and small the ability to shine and stand out from the competition.”

Jim Thorpe, PA has been touted by National Geographic, the Travel Channel/USA Today and Philadelphia Magazine as among the best places to live and play, most beautiful, friendliest and best romantic getaway. Nestled in the Lehigh Gorge and the gateway to the Pocono Mountains, tens of thousands of tourists visit Jim Thorpe each year.

The Jim Thorpe Tourism Agency’s mission is to draw visitors to Jim Thorpe from N.Y.C, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., throughout the Lehigh Valley, the Poconos, the entire Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions, across the country and around the world.

JTTA, a nonprofit volunteer organization, plans and promotes four major festivals each year: WinterFest, the Jim Thorpe Birthday Celebration, Fall Foliage and Olde Time Christmas.  JTTA maintains a website with photos, an events calendar and clickable links to accommodations, restaurants, shops and attractions. A full-color, glossy Visitors Guide with walking map is produced annually.
