IMG_2421Sure and Begorrah, Parade weekend in Jim Thorpe is bound to bring your Irish out.

While the 19th annual Carbon County St. Patrick’s Day Parade doesn’t begin until 1 p.m. on Sunday, there’s lots of smiling for Irish eyes to do before then.

Irish and American flags flying over Broadway welcome tourists and locals alike to parade central. If you didn’t come to town prepared, you can find a plethora of festive green hats, ties, sunglasses and green beads at the Mauch Chunk 5 & 10 before heading to the Molly Maguire for a Parade Eve Guiness.

The annual Ancient Order of Hibernians Mass at the Immaculate Conception Church at 4:30 p.m. Saturday is a long honored tradition with procession of the members of the AOH and LAOH bearing the flags of the counties of Ireland and the state of Pennsylvania.

From Holy to Terrors, the Mauch Chunk Opera House presents Celtic favorite the Tartan Terrors at 8 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $30

After a blessing outside the shamrock-bedecked Immaculate Conception Church and a laying of a wreath for the Molly Maguires at the Old Jail, Grand Marshal Francis “Snitz” O’Donnell and his aides: fellow innkeeper and fellow O’Neill, though shy one “L” Sheila O’Neil of the Gilded Cupid, Margaret Diehm, James Clauser, and Hank Williams will make their way down Broadway at 1 p.m.

May the good saints protect you and bless you today. And may troubles ignore you each step of the way.
