To celebrate, the Jim Thorpe Tourist Agency sponsors an annual festival the first three weekends of October with vendors, food, crafts and music, music, music.
Bands will be performing at the Josiah White Park gazebo, in front of the Dimmick Memorial Library, on Quarry Street and on the steps of the Mauch Chunk Opera House. Here’s a link to the schedule.
The party continues into the evening with ticketed concerts at the Opera House. Tonight, CSNsongs take the stage with a tribute to the music of Crosby Stills Nash and Young. Tickets: $23.
Saturday night, they’ll be damning the torpedoes with a Tom Petty tribute by Damn the Torpedoes. Tickets: $18. Doors open each night at 7 p.m. Showtime is 8 p.m.
If you aren’t staying in town, you’ll want to check out this important parking information. Due to bridge construction, the train station parking lot is down a significant number of spaces and is expected to be full by 10 a.m. on festival weekends.
