Those who know Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania know its beauty. Judges will be in town this weekend to see if it measures up to the Most Beautiful Small Town in America.

Memorial Day weekend kicks off the summer season in beautiful Jim Thorpe, PA – Gateway to the Poconos.

There were days, nay weeks, possibly even months this past winter that we doubted summer would ever come but it’s here and so are all the familiar sites and sounds that beckon tourists all summer long.

The train whistle will be blowing as the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway excursions start running weekends with two special events early on. Next weekend on Saturday, May 31, the ever-popular Pennsylvania Dutch Treat Train runs offering passengers ring bologna, pickles, cheese, pretzels, and shoofly pie. Enjoy complimentary birch beer, bottled water, or assorted sodas.

If you thought that was fun, on June 7 and 8, you can enjoy the beautiful river gorge by train one-way and bike the rail-trail on your way back to town.

The Old Jail Museum, Asa Packer Mansion, Ghost and Town tours are also in full swing. And don’t forget the Mauch Chunk Opera House for great summer concerts and deck parties at Penn”s Peak, which kick off on Thursday night, May 29 with local favorite Becky and the Beasts.

Start off your visit at the newly refurbished PMVB Jim Thorpe Visitors Center down at Josiah White Park/Train Station. Tell Jane hello from the Times House and find out more about what Jim Thorpe, the Gateway of the Pocono Mountains has to offer.
