With Valentine’s Day and Jim Thorpe’s annual WinterFest celebration this weekend, there’s lots in store for visitors to the town Philadelphia Magazine named its 2012 Best of Philly: Best Romantic Getaway.
Each President’s Day Weekend, visitors to Jim Thorpe enjoy WinterFest Ice sculptures, wood carving exhibitions, the famous Jim Thorpe Mug Walk, magic shows, Civil War reenactors and much more.

Wine and chocolate lovers will enjoy a benefit at the Mauch Chunk Museum on Saturday, Feb. 15 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., to raise funds for the Bach & Handel Chorale. There will be a DJ, wine from Big Creek Winery, a chocolate fountain, hors d’oeuvres, gift baskets and raffle prizes. Tickets: $20; Students – $10.
From 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, you can enjoy an hour of love songs across the street, at the Gilded Cupid Bed & Breakfast. Light snacks and an adult beverage are included in the $10 ticket price. Reservations required. For more information, call 570-325-5453.
The Mauch Chunk Opera House will be hopping all weekend. The festivities begin Thursday evening, Feb. 13 as the Southside Film Institute of Bethlehem presents Charlie Chaplin’s City Lights. The Opera House will stage two concerts by Tusk, a Fleetwood Mac tribute band on Friday and Saturday nights, with a Sunday Memories of Elvis tribute concert by Chris MacDonald.
