With the Lehigh Valley Wine Trail’s Harvest Weekend and legendary musicians Larry Coryell, Victor Bailey and Lenny White performing tonight at the Mauch Chunk Opera House, it’s a great weekend to visit Jim Thorpe and the surrounding countryside.
While the Big Creek Vineyard store, next door to the Times House B&B on historic Race Street, is a favorite stop for locals and tourists alike, this weekend is a perfect time to visit the vineyard itself in Kresgeville – about 20 minutes outside of town. As part of Harvest Weekend festivities, goers will also get the chance to enjoy fresh, tree-ripened fruits from Heckman Orchards.
On your drive back from the vineyard, another fun stop along Route 209 in Lehighton is Country Junction, billed as the world’s largest general store. It even has a petting zoo.
The Mauch Chunk Opera House can always be counted on for a great show. Tonight will be no exception. Check out a clip of this incredible jazz fusion trio – Larry Coryell, Victor Bailey and Lenny White at a 2006 Jazz Fest in Wiesen, Austria.
With daily dam releases, September is also a great time for whitewater rafting down the Lehigh River. For more information and a video of a trip down the Lehigh Gorge, check out Pocono Whitewater’s website.
Next weekend: Victorian Heritage Festival and tribute artist Real Diamond at the Mauch Chunk Opera House.
