It will be Olde Time Christmas sans snow this weekend as the Jim Thorpe Chamber of Commerce celebrates Christmas in July and Charles Dickens’ 200th birthday.

Though Jim Thorpe didn’t win the Rand McNally/USA Today Most Beautiful Town in America title this week, those who know Jim Thorpe love Jim Thorpe and know the truth.

The truth is this Most Beautiful Town finalist could have won at least four of the five categories awarded in the Best of the Road competition including Most Fun.

In addition to a plethora of outdoor adventure opportunities, Jim Thorpe has a litany of activities to enjoy this weekend from Thursday’s Date Night to Disco at the Mauch Chunk Opera House on Friday, to Mug Walks, Dickens’ Birthday cake at the Dimmick, and Olde Time Christmas in July. There will be a Jukebox Cruisers’ Classic Car Cruise to the Music Event at Memorial Park, while the Bach and Handel Chorale will serenade visitors with another type of classic music at the Josiah White Park.

A highlight of tomorrow’s Thursday Date Night in Jim Thorpe is the Mauch Chunk Opera House screening of the 1983 classic Local Hero. Tickets are $6. Showtime is 7 p.m.

Next weekend – Wine on the Mountain and the PA Blues Festival at the Blue Mountain Ski Area.
